Hawk in the tree sees all

Wordless Wednesday . . .

hawkThis hawk sits quietly scanning the creek bank for movement. I believe this is a Broad-winged Hawk. I was told a Sharp-shinned had staked this territory but this does not look like a Sharp-shinned from this vantage. Of course what do I know I'm quite the novice bird-watcher.

I always find birds of prey so strikingly beautiful1

Every once in a while we have a big Hawk swoop in and land in our big tree just to show the other birds who is boss.

This one is beautiful in full wing in the sun. However, I suspect it is the reason the baby duck population did not have a chance this year. I don't think even one of the two (dozen each) broods had a chick mature to flight. Very sad. But if its responsible for keeping the chipmunks at bay I might reconsider my curse.
