The NaNos are coming!

NaNoWriMoIt's that time again. In 31 days those of us who can't seem to contain our writing muses will succumb to the tantalizing insanity of another National Novel Writing Month, also known by insiders as NaNoWriMo.

If you have never stepped up to the challenge of writing 50,000 words in 30 days, or even 50,000 words in your entire life, then you really owe it to yourself to sign up, grab your favorite chocolate, find a group of forum buddies to hangout with, and meet us at the starting gate on Saturday, November first.

This wild ride may or may not result in your dream bestselling novel but it will teach you things about writing, yourself, and your writing process you will likely learn no other way.

Just remember that it's all about getting the words down and not about perfection or editing or even making complete sense; this is a draft, it is only a draft, so the first thing to go (right after the necktie and the girdle) is your internal editor. If you don't turn it off before you start you have no hope of getting past the first week; and you want to get past the first week so you can get past the second and third weeks. By week four the die is cast and you will not be able to not finish even if you tried.

So there you have it in a nutshell. NaNo is coming down the pike so get ready to hop on. It will be the ride of your life and you'll get to join our giddy party when we arrive on December first with a mixture of joy and relief.

So...who's in? Let us know in comments.

I wish I would of come to your post sooner, I wrote a story about 23 years ago and my son thought it was good, not excellent. How many people entered?
